What are you going to do with the – dash –?

While jogging at the San Francisco National Cemetery located on the grounds of the famous Presidio near San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge this foggy morning, a thought came on to me about the meaning of life. This very day, Sunday morning, December 7, 1941 is always a very special day that all Americans should remember. It was a day when more than 2,000 Americans soldiers and sailors died and 1,000 more were wounded in the surprise attack by the Japanese military at the height of World War II.
I stopped to take a rest while reading the epitaph of each tombstone of our veterans on the many wars fought throughout the history of our nation. In every tombstone there is a birth date and a death date. In between is a – dash – .
The – dash – is you in the present. The question is . . . what you going to do with your life? Do you just work, sleep, eat and going through the daily grind until the day you die? Or are you going to make a difference with that – dash – you are currently living in?
